A Believing Community

UncategorizedValerie 2 Comments

Last weekend, my husband and I had the privilege of attending The B Foundation Gala in our town.  The B Foundation is a group that raises funds to help those in our community whose lives have been impacted by cancer.  The annual "A Day To Believe" events and other awareness activities have been a positive force in Belding. The speaker at the Gala was a lady named Heather Jose.  Heather was diagnosed with stage IV cancer at the young age of twenty-six.  And she is a cancer survivor.  She has written a book entitled Every Day We Are Killing Cancer.  I am half way through reading it.  Her story has moved me to tears and is very inspiring.

Sometimes, a small, rural town can feel like it doesn't have a lot going for it.  Yet, when we gather for an evening to hear how The B Foundation is making a big difference in lives of hurting people, and hear the encouraging and inspirational words of a cancer survivor like Heather, you are reminded that our small town does indeed have a lot going for it.

Of course, this is a style blog so I will share with you what I wore.  At first I thought that seems a little shallow, but what a joy it is to dress up and attend a splendid event in celebration of cancer survivors and honoring those who have lost the battle.  Because that is one of the best ways we can remember those we have lost, by continuing to live lives that are full of generosity and tenderness.  I am proud to be part of the Belding community and spend a night surrounded by inspirational, compassionate, and giving people.
