About 40 miles outside of Destin, FL is an incredible antique store. This picture does not do it justice. It is massive! I could have spent all day. In fact, I would have been happy to have had a slumber party!
But we didn't have a lot of time to spend looking, so I was extremely giddy when this primitive dough bowl was the first thing I saw!
It practically jumped into my arms! Okay, I confess...I might have actually tackled it. And quite possibly, I may have shed tears
and blew snot bubbles when I held it next to my heart. It's exquisite! One of the things that I adore about antiques is that each piece has a history. This bowl was part of a life story and now it enters into ours. Can you imagine how much dough was made in this bowl? I read that it wasn't uncommon for a man to carve a wooden dough bowl for his future wife as a wedding present. Sigh. I find that extremely romantic! There were other bowls there that were in better shape than this, but the worn character is what drew me to this particular bowl. I especially like how these cracks were repaired.
I originally thought that I would put it on the dining room table, but it wasn't comfortable there. So then I set it on the coffee table and I really think I may have heard the Hallelujah Chorus! Okay, I confess...I sang the Hallelujah Chorus. It is home where it belongs.
