We went to my parents' on New Year's Day. My dad prayed before the meal and he spoke a sentence that stuck with me. He said, "We don't know what the year will bring, but we thank you, God." My heart sunk at those words.
Awww man, Dad! I know the year will have beautiful, happy, and lovely moments. But when I heard his words, I immediately went to suffering, tragedy, pain. All those things that I so want to avoid.
But my dad is right. We don't know what the year will bring, but thank you, God. Thank you for another year. Thank you for moments that draw us close to you. I want to give thanks in the circumstance, even the painful ones because you are faithful.
I have a lot of desires and goals for the next year. But I know that the most important is that I must seek first God's Kingdom. I was doing my devotions on the morning of December 31st. I was reflecting on 2012 and thinking about 2013 and I read from Job. "I am convinced: you can do anything and everything. Nothing and no one can upset your plans." (Job 42:1 The Message)
Corrie ten Boom said, "Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God." I want to have that kind of faith!
So how about you? Any goals and desires for the new year? Of course, we all know I will continue to thrift in 2013. In fact, I am off to a good start already! I picked up this super cool men's vintage plaid shirt yesterday at Goodwill for $3.99!
